Applewood is a continuing care retirement community with 300+ residents. is a warm and vibrant residential senior living community for people of ages 62 and older. We offer maintenance-free luxury cottages, senior apartments and a way of life that encourages health and well-being of the mind, body, and spirit. Residents enjoy the freedom to choose from ample on-site services and activities, or they can pursue hobbies and travel on their own without the responsibilities and stress of maintaining a home.

 

Applewood is seeking a Director of Nursing (DON) to assume authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility. In collaboration with Director of Healthcare Services, the Director of Nursing:

  • Allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to enable each resident to attain or maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate resident care, related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the facility.
  • Oversees Assisted Living, Memory Care, the Clinic/Wellness Center, and Outpatient Therapy Rehab as part of the CCRC continuum.

Responsibilities

  • Acts in an administrative capacity in the absence of the Director of Healthcare Services Administrator.
  • Assists the Admissions Coordinator and Director of Nursing in pre-screening potential new residents, including the MDS process.
  • Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation.
  • Communicates directly with residents, families, medical staff, nursing staff, interdisciplinary team members, and Department Heads to coordinate care and services, promote participation in care plans, and maintain a high quality of care and life for residents.
  • Collaborates with physicians, consultants, community agencies, and institutions to improve the quality of services and to resolve identified problems.
Qualifications

  • Bachelors in nursing or related field preferred.
  • Two years LTC/sub-acute experience required.
  • At least three years of experience in nursing administration or comparable management position.
  • Previous CCRC experience required.
  • Current NJ RN license required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of long-term care management, policies, budgeting, personnel management, and census development is required.
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a long-term care setting.
  • Must possess time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to make presentations before top management, public groups, and staff.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
