Operating Room (OR): This seven-bed unit offers a great opportunity to be a part of this fast-paced and exciting specialty. Nurse to patient ratio of 1:1 in this OR setting that includes scrubbing and circulating in the OR for surgery cases including orthopedics, total joint replacement, pelvic/ urologic, and bariatric surgeries. Flexible scheduling that is provided two weeks in advance, with assignment s given the day of and management that is sensitive to the work-life balance and attempts to accommodate schedules around school schedules and life activities. The OR leaders and educators have an extensive amount of experience in the specialty and are willing to share this knowledge and potentially train candidates that are looking to learn this fast paced and exciting aspect of healthcare. CentraState Medical Center has an employment opportunity available for an Operating Room Nurse Educator. The Operating Room Nurse Educator is responsible for planning, development and documentation of clinical orientation and continuing education programs for nursing staff.
- Responsible for planning, development and documentation of clinical orientation and continuing education programs for nursing staff.
- Assists in maintaining quality patient care by educating healthcare providers in current practice and procedures and provision of patient, family and community education as required in accordance with ANA standards, the New Jersey Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission, specialty organizations and established hospital and Nursing Department policies and procedures in accordance with evidenced based nursing practice.
- Collaborate in designing, evaluating and revising unit specific educational programs (e.g. competency-based orientation, skill testing and continuing education) on the basis of pre-identified learning needs, patient outcomes, internal/community standards of practice and current theory/research (e.g. best practices).
- Anticipates, where possible, future individual and group learning needs.
- Participates in councils, committees and task groups as a team leader, facilitator and member to facilitate the improvement of nursing standards, processes and principles.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field required. Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum of five years-nursing experience with previous teaching experience required
- Registered professional nurse with current NJ license and BLS Healthcare Provider is required
- Certification in specialty area preferred
