Nurse Manager Nursing Administration plans, directs and supervises the overall operation of the assigned nursing units. Maintains 24-hour responsibility. Works within the department and as a part of CentraState’s management team to operationalize the patient care and service goals and objectives established by senior management. Provides, evaluates and maintains quality of

patient care in accordance with current policies and procedures, ANA Standards, the NJ Nurse Practice Act and NJ Practical Nurse Act, Joint Commission, NJ Department of Health and Senior Services, and Specialty Organizations incorporating evidence based practice. Utilizes the Nursing process to plan and direct patient care activities in a culturally sensitive manner. Evaluates the effectiveness of Nursing care through the analysis of Nurse Sensitive indicators and patient outcomes. A patient focused care model utilizing a multidisciplinary approach is used as the method to deliver care in the department. Members of the multi-disciplinarytreatment team include: Nurse Managers, Float Personnel, Administrative Coordinators, Clinical Leaders, RNs, LPNs, MSTs, NAs, Monitor Technicians, Unit Secretaries, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Dietitians, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapists, Respiratory,

Case Managers, Pastoral Care, Speech Therapist, Infection Control, Pharmacists, Phlebotomists, Housekeeping, and Professional Development.


Responsible for planning, development and documentation of clinical orientation and continuing education programs for nursing staff. Assists in maintaining quality patient care by educating healthcare providers in current practice and procedures; provision of patient, family and community education as required in accordance with ANA standards, the NJ Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission, specialty organizations and established hospital and nursing department policies and procedures in accordance with evidenced based nursing practice. Collaborates in designing, evaluating and revising unit-specific educational programs (e.g. competency-based orientation, skill testing and continuing education) on the basis of pre-identified learning needs patient outcomes, internal/community standards of practice and current theory/research (e.g. best practices). Anticipates, where possible, future individual and group learning needs. Participates in councils, committees and task groups as a team leader, facilitator and member to facilitate the improvement of nursing standards, processes and principles.


  • Provides for the protection of self and others by adhering to the unit-based safe work practices regarding protective equipment by using proper sharps disposal technique; exercising care and caution when working with and around other sharps and following manufacturer and safety precautions.
  • Oversees the performance of the Admin Coordinators and implements timely corrective action as needed.
  • Oversees the performance of the Float Pool and Safety Companion staff and implements timely corrective action as needed.
  • Holds administrative coordinators accountable for staffing.
  • Oversees the operations of the 2 West Overflow and 1st Floor Overflow units
  • Proactively assesses and analyzes data associated with staffing and provides an action plan to the VP of Nursing and CNO
  • Participates in development and coordination of policies, procedures and standards of care for the Float Pool and Safety Companions.
  • Proactively develops staffing reports to enhance productivity.
  • Establishes and implements standards of care based on evidenced-based nursing practice and evaluates patient care through the application of the nursing process and compares the delivery of the care to the established standard(s).
  • Plans and directs individual staff member’s orientation to the Float Pool, Admin Coordinators, Safety Companions and staffing, based on individual skills assessment.
  • Assesses the need to develop and implement a professional growth plan for each staff member by enforcing attendance at appropriate in-service training sessions, encouraging staff to attend outside seminars and assigning duties to maximize development. Collaborates with peers when necessary.
  • Supports and follows through on all HCAHPS initiatives – accountability and education of staff.
  • Submits timely follow up and action plans.
  • Participates in committees and task groups as team leaders, facilitators and members to improve nursing standards, processes and principles.
  • Participates in evaluation of the healthcare provider and identifies performance goals.
  • Serves as a consultant to nursing and other departments in specific patient care situations.
  • Serves as preceptor/mentor when necessary.
  • Serves as Administrative Coordinator from 4p to 8p Monday through Friday.
  • Works closely with the throughput coordinator to facilitate opening and closing of the overflow units.

  • Bachelor’s Nursing Required
  • Master’s Nursing Required
  • 3 years Nursing Supervisory Required
  • 1 year experience as an educator preferred
  • RN License / New Jersey Required
  • BLS certification Required
  • National Nursing Certification Required
  • National Nursing Certifications Preferred
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates teaching and clinical abilities
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team
