Supervises and participates in the installation, maintenance and repair of Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Skilled finishes systems and Buildings work.


The Skilled Trades Supervisor is the working supervisorial level for all Skilled Trades functions and related equipment. Direction is received from the Manager of Construction. Supervision is exercised over Electricians, Plumbers, Craftsman and Painters.


  • Plans, Organizes, and controls activities of assigned personnel and functions under the direction of the Manager of Construction.
  • Utilizes the Computerized Maintenance Work Order System and the Work Request Standard Procedure to manage work load, completion and accountability for assigned personnel and contracted work.
  • Utilizes the Computerized Maintenance Work Order System to monitor compliance with regulatory required maintenance and testing completion and statutory time tables.
  • Monitors workmanship/performance quality. Ensure the quality of workmanship, code compliance, and individual competency.
  • Monitors productivity to ensure the productivity level of each individual meets expectations.
  • Participates in departmental functions to improve staff and customer satisfaction.
  • Reviews maintenance tasks, procedures and assignments for all preventative maintenance and repairs to assure compliance with manufacturer’s recommendations and Facility operational needs.
  • Maintains and improves preventative maintenance program and records to meet compliance documentation requirements. Meets PM completion time lines.
  • Troubleshoots and analyzes equipment problems and or failures to assure appropriate corrective action and completion.  
  • Provides technical assistance to departmental and hospital staff.
  • Observes work techniques and practices to assure that safety policies are followed. Training and enforcement of safety policies is required.
  • Evaluates and trains subordinate personnel; maintains productivity and quality records, inspects work in progress and upon completion.
  • Coordinates logistics.
  • Materials requirements. Reviews material lists and stock levels. Prepares and approves supply and materials requisitions.
  • Coordinates with departmental and medical staff for appropriate access and times to perform repairs.
  • Coordinates with staff to assure proper assignment and scheduling of resources to include materials, tools and equipment and skilled tradesman.
  • Schedules work in coordination with departments, management, and contractors to meet requirements.
  • Monitors all work performed to assure compliance with the following-
  • All applicable building codes.
  • All applicable regulatory agencies, such as Joint Commission and NJ Department of Health.
  • Monitors and Records employee performance on a continual basis and assists
  • Manager in preparation of the annual performance evaluations.
  • Schedules and maintains staff coverage for all essential functions as applied to all assigned buildings.
  • Provides recommendations and assists Construction Manager in disciplinary issues of subordinate personnel.
  • Participates in departmental functions as required during emergencies.
  • Performs other departmental duties as assigned.
  • Assist in budget preparation.
  • Plan, organize and supervise the work of Skilled Trade Technicians.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 10 Years of experience in Skilled Trades including service, installation and repair including electrical components and functions.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in multiple building systems.
  • NJ License for a minimum of one building trade.
  • Computer literate with functional ability in Microsoft Outlook.
  • See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
  • Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction
  • Exhibit the normal range of body motion.
  • Transport loads up to 100 lbs. utilizing appropriate equipment.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions including hot, cold, or damp weather with exposure to noises, vibration, odors, and dust.
  • Plan, layout and perform skilled assigned functions in electrical activities.
  • Work from diagrams, blueprints, plans, and specifications.
  • Perform shop math.
  • Operate power and hand tools and equipment used in electrical related activities
  • Instruct employees in proper safety precautions.
  • Read, understand, interpret, and utilize technical manuals.
  • Diagnose and repair or contract to repair high medium and low voltage switching and distribution.
  • Read, understand, interpret, and utilize Manufacturer’s drawings and specifications.
  • Work without supervision and use considerable initiative and judgment in the performance of assign tasks.
  • Coordinate and supervise crews engaged in various work assignments.
  • Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and contractors associated with assigned work.
