Operating Room (OR): This seven-bed unit offers a great opportunity to be a part of this fast-paced and exciting specialty. Nurse to patient ratio of 1:1 in this OR setting that includes scrubbing and circulating in the OR for surgery cases including orthopedics, total joint replacement, pelvic/ urologic, and bariatric surgeries. Flexible scheduling that is provided two weeks in advance, with assignment s given the day of and management that is sensitive to the work-life balance and attempts to accommodate schedules around school schedules and life activities. The OR leaders and educators have an extensive amount of experience in the specialty and are willing to share this knowledge and potentially train candidates that are looking to learn this fast paced and exciting aspect of healthcare. Responsibilities

  • Administers medications as needed following CSHS policies and manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Takes immediate and appropriate actions in the event of a medication variance occurrence.
  • Recognizes adverse reactions to medications and takes immediate and appropriate actions.
  • Recognizes changes in patient condition and/or emergencies situations and takes immediate and appropriate actions.
  • Makes decisions that demonstrate knowledge of nursing practice; utilizes sound nursing judgment in clinical and patient care management situations.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills in the care of patients and in the coordination of care to assure the achievement of maximum outcome.
  • Assists in the development of department PI plans and reports.
  • Continually assesses and improves the care/services provided.
  • Maintains and updates Doctors’ Preference Cards as needed.
  • Participates in meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Stays aware of departmental operations and recommends changes where necessary to optimize the quality of patient care and services provided.
  • Assesses patient needs, plans and delivers expert nursing care to selected patients on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrates an ability to organize and incorporate new routines, procedures, and skills.
  • Works with surgical services educator to establish an orientation and education plan for the specialty service and updates as clinical practices change.
  • Develops team-focused interaction among peers and staff.
  • Prepares and maintains policies and procedures.
  • Directs and/or performs troubleshooting of equipment and/or procedural problems including equipment repair.
  • Maintains adequate and appropriate inventories of supplies.
  • Manages and utilizes time efficiently.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper documentation.
  • Reports any unusual occurrences, situations, or hazards to appropriate personnel.
  • Identifies and submits potential non-capital equipment/supply needs.
  • Maintains open communication among perioperative team (i.e. surgeons/managers/ancillary staff).
  • Supports cost containment efforts of the hospital through conservation of supplies and care of equipment.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge and competency in areas of specialization.
  • Acts as preceptor to new employees as necessary.
Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
  • Two years of Operating Room RN Experience required.
  • Certification in the OR (CNOR) preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • RN License/NJ
  • BLS/ACLS required
